building from the seeds of radical self-publishing and zine culture

kōtiro publishing giant ltd
Is an interdisciplinary publishing house and production company based in Aotearoa, New Zealand
It produces and holds the publishing and literary rights of the artistic work of Ana Chaya Scotney, and collaborators, as well as independent artists who wish to have their work produced and or published by kōtiro publishing giant.
Ours is an ethos of protecting the sovereignty of the story and its teller(s) / scribe(s) so that the artist(s) remain at the centre of production and output, and is/are making decisions about the movement of the story’s realisation and process
In motion, kōtiro’s areas of interest are primarily in works that explore the complexity of contemporary indigenous experience, and diasporic and intersectional cultural contexts, in Aotearoa, today
Interdisciplinary in nature
We make efforts to research and share the points of view of youth, tangata whenua and off-the-grid communities and ecologies, and to share work in these environments;
The tikanga, pedagogies and communities realising, contributing to, and engaging with these stories and their realisation are integral to how we work and engage
groups are empowered and honoured in the process, acknowledging that each context is specific and dynamic in nature, and production requirements must move to meet these tikanga, without pressure to be standardised
kōtiro publishing giant has a fluid team of collaborators and stakeholders, based on the work being produced, but is helmed, for the better part, by Ana (Tūhoe) in collaboration with Marnie Karmelita (Aus)
